Furnace Not Working? A Chilliwack Checklist
If the furnace stops on a cold night, these checks can sometimes get the heat back on and always give the technician useful information.

Vent pipes

Drain
Make sure the condensate drain isn't blocked or frozen.
Fuel
Propane homes should check the tank.
Error lights
Note any blinking code on the furnace control board window.
Gas smell

Next
See furnace service.
When to stop
If the furnace still won't run after these checks, leave the panels on and wait for the technician. Repeated restarts can hide the real fault.
Keep notes
Write down what happened and what you checked, including any light codes.
Older furnaces
Furnaces with a standing pilot light may have gone out. Relight only by following the instructions on the furnace label, or leave it to a technician if you're unsure.
Short cycling
A furnace that starts, runs briefly and stops may be overheating from a dirty filter or have a sensor problem. Note how long each cycle lasts.
Cold rooms only
If most rooms are warm but a few are cold, the problem is likely ducts, dampers or closed vents rather than the furnace.
Thermostat wiring
A loose wire or a thermostat on the wrong setting can look like a furnace failure. If the thermostat is new, check it first.
