Agassiz is the town centre of the District of Kent, about 24 kilometres northeast of Chilliwack across the Fraser. Kent had 6,300 people at the 2021 census, most living in and around Agassiz.
What that means for your HVAC
Agassiz mixes village homes with farms and acreages. Older homes may still run oil or electric heat, and heat pumps are a popular upgrade that adds cooling for hot summers in the valley; see heat pump installation.
Farm country
Dust from fields and gravel roads loads filters and outdoor coils. Check filters monthly in busy seasons, rinse outdoor coils gently with the power off in spring, and mention farm dust when booking a tune-up so the technician plans for a deeper clean.
Ferney Combe
Lewis Nunn Agassiz, a former soldier with the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers, and his wife Mary Caroline came west from Prince Edward Island and set up a homestead here in 1858 called Ferney Combe. When the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in 1885, the community was formally named Agassiz. Older homes near the original townsite have been heated many ways over the decades, so it's worth having a contractor check the chimney, venting and wiring before switching systems; see furnace service.
