Greendale at a glance

Greendale is a mainly agricultural settlement on Chilliwack's west side, bordering Abbotsford, at the base of Sumas Mountain. The Vedder River separates it from Yarrow to the south.

Dust and pollen

Field work, livestock and harvest season put a lot of dust and pollen in the air. Filters and outdoor coils load up faster than in town, so plan on monthly filter checks in busy seasons and a coil cleaning at the spring tune-up.

From Sumas to Greendale

The area was originally called Sumas and was renamed Greendale in 1951 to avoid confusion with the neighbouring District of Sumas. Sumas Lake was drained in the early 1920s, and Greendale has seen two major floods, in 1894 and 1948. Today it's home to the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. On low ground with a flood history, outdoor heating and cooling equipment is best mounted on a raised stand, and electrical connections kept well above the floor in basements and crawl spaces; ask your contractor about placement during a new install.
