HVAC in Harrison Hot Springs

Harrison Hot Springs at a glance

Harrison Hot Springs is a resort village of just over 1,500 people at the southern end of Harrison Lake, next to the District of Kent. It's named for Benjamin Harrison, a former deputy governor of the Hudson's Bay Company.

What that means for your HVAC

Homes and cottages by the lake range from older summer places to newer year-round houses. Ductless heat pumps suit cottages without ducts, while newer homes may use ducted heat pumps or furnaces with AC; see ductless heat pumps.

Wind off the lake

Winter wind off the lake can be cold and strong during outflow events. Outdoor units placed out of the wind and up on stands work better, and doors and windows facing the lake benefit from good weatherstripping.

St. Alice's Well

The village began as a resort in 1886, when the Canadian Pacific Railway put the springs within a short carriage ride of the main line. It was first promoted as St. Alice's Well. Europeans had found the springs decades earlier when a party of travellers heading for the goldfields capsized on the lake and found the water warm instead of freezing; Indigenous communities already knew them. Resort and rental properties here see heavy summer use, so a spring tune-up before the busy season is worth booking.
